Turley is a winery that focuses on small production “Big Red” wines from old vine Zinfandel and Petite Syrah, based in St. Helena in the Napa Valley, California. The winery is a family operation helmed brother and sister duo Larry and Helen Turley, founded in 1993. Their prestigious wines are in constantly high demand, and their private wine club has a two-year waiting list. The wines are produced from several vineyards, with vines dating back to the 1800s. Each terroir lends its own character to the wines, and they are given separate labels according to location each vintage. The vineyards are located in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Lodi, Howell Mountain and Contra Costa.

  • Turley Zinfandel Paso Robles Pesenti Vineyard 2014

Lots if dried fruit at the front of this one--think prunes and raisins. With that description you should think that this is a big, rich wine. It is. It also seems hot. It doesn't suck, but all in all, it just seems to be an unintegrated wine with no subtly. Read More

  • Turley Wine Cellars Zinfandel California Old Vines 2015

Some red fruit--cherry, plum--on the tip of the tongue. Some dustiness. Very moderate tannin. Not quite full-bodied. Do not drink this one right our of the cellar. Let it warm up for a few minutes. It then emerges as a very enjoyable wine, Read More

  • Turley Uboldi Vineyard Alicante Bouschet 2013

Beautiful dark plum color. Bit of a phenolic nose. On the tongue an introduction of red cherry. Some alcohol. Tannin is noticeable around the edges of my tongue. As the wine warms, a bit, the tannin notes around the edges of the tongue are replace by an enjoyable suggestion of citric acid. A big mouth-filling wine. Very pleasant aftertaste. Read More

  • Turley California Zinfandel Old Vines 2015

Red fruit on entrymore towards dried fruit than ripe, fresh fruit. However, not sweet-amplified, like you might expect. So, are you with me here? More savoriness than I would expect from a Zin. Not terribly full-bodied, but, certainly, not wimpy. Observable tannin and acid, but not over the top in either case. Good, easy to enjoy wine. Read More

  • Haha..I can tell you I wasn't feeling too chipper on Monday morning!A guy ... was great.  There was a Turley Zinfandel which was also very nice, but not what I expected.  It was fairly light and the colour was thin Ruby.  It was also 16% abv, but not too hot on the back end.  Nice, but I was expecting something a bit heftier.  The white Italia...
