This wine was not corked and it tasted like inky wine that burned the tongue. Did anyone really think good wine could come from the Livermore Valley? We'll have trepidations about buying another wine from Wente. This bottle Wente straight down the disposal.

This wine didn't have a pleasant aroma when I first uncorked it. However after letting is breathe for just a few minutes, it was full of flavors and slighty smoky (which I like). It is a full bodied merlot (not for wimpy drinkers!) with a hint of spice and vanilla.

Tasting Notes:

With a smooth feel and tangy, balanced tannins, this vintage of Crane Ridge Merlot offers undertones of blackberry and vanilla complemented by a smoky finish from the oak aging. Crane Ridge is an excellent example of Merlot - it shows off the best of the varietal’s characteristics, with additional richness from the Cabernet Sauvignon component of the blend.

Fermentation: This blend was fermented in upright stainless steel fermenters. The fermentation temperatures exceeded 90°F to maximize color and tannin extraction. Aging: All parts of this blend were aged for at least 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
