Veuve Amiot Brut Saumur NV

Member Review by Maryjo2:

D'Artagnan was sent a dozen of these while besieging La Rochelle. Had Portos made previous aquaintance with this light, delicate wine with its bubble and subtle yeast autolysis, he might have spared his mates from the problems of that parcel having been "poisoned"... The Mrs loves the bubbles, and I love the price without being offended by the differences between this and "the real stuff". With a slightly more southerly provenance, the winemakers have access to potentially vulgar amounts of fruit and fruit sweetness (as opposed to chardy Brut De Brut from Epernay and its neighbours). I intend no disrespect by praising this as a commercial wine which I do not expect to cellar for more than 3-4 years, but which I do expect to turn over much faster than that - regularly!

Tasting Notes:

This is refreshingly light and dry with notes of melon.

A sparkling French white from the Loire Valley, twice fermented with a 9 month maturation process.
