Tommasi Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Lots of licorice, dried fruit, and candied fruit aromas greet the nose along with a touch of VA adding some lift. Rather rich up front, then turning supple and very smooth on the palate with enough RS to lend the dried cherry, dried strawberry and plum flavors a noticeable sweetness. The acidity here is well integrated, some tannins emerge on the backend and through the finish which is black cherry fruited and moderately long, showing a good blend of richness and focus. 89pts

Low acid. Hints of juicy fruit. Long finish on the palate. Full Bodied - did not need any breathing.

Best wine I bought this year. However, overpriced. I love it but will not spend that much money on wine again. (bought 6 bottles) If it ever goes on sale and shipping is free I may reconsider.

Vähän tunkkainen punaviini, jokin pistävä takamaku. Kävi perjantaipulloksi kyllä. :P

The 2010 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is one of the nicest yet from this historic estate at the heart of Valpolicella. The Tommasi family has crafted a balanced expression with dark fruit, prune and loads of moist chewing tobacco. It is overtly sweet in the mouth and will appeal to those who enjoy the power and opulence of this unique Italian wine. It’s almost ready to drink now but could use a year or two to integrate. Drink 2013–2022.

Open-knit and accessible, with a ripe edge to the flavors of black cherry coulis, fruit cake, licorice and graphite-tinged mineral. Well-balanced, showing fine tannins throughout. Drink now through 2020.

From a warmer vintage, the 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is showing beautifully right now. Like all of Tommasi’s top wines, the signature style shows loads of dark fruit intensity and a brooding, textured mouthfeel. It also boasts the overt, chewy sweetness that Amarone is known for. Prune, plum cake and baking spice appear on the finish. Drink 2014–2021.

Lightly juicy overall, with high-toned notes of plum brandy, kirsch, red licorice, tea rose and pekoe tea. Grainy tannins lend texture to the finish. Drink now through 2018.

The wine is warm, ripe on the nose, with aromas which are intense and of great refinement. On the palate the flavros are complex, smooth, full bodied, with lots of cherry notes and plum.

Deep purple-tinged ruby. Grapey, deep aromas of stewed plum, raisin, date and cocoa explode from the glass. Rich, smooth and very dense, with wonderfully tactile flavors similar to the aromas. This very pure Amarone finishes creamy-sweet but fresh, t... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Proprietary Blend wine from Veneto in Italy. 2008 Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 750ml

A deep, almost black wine with a rich bouquet of red berries, brandy, and cedar. Its palate is sweet with plum and berry fruit and has a silky, balanced texture and taste. It finishes with a great array of sweet herbs, tobacco, and anise that make it a fine companion for full-flavored stews or roasts.
