Sterling Vintner's Collection Merlot 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Merlot delivers smooth, fruit forward flavors with appealing richness and complexity. Ripe red fruit aromas are followed by black cherry and plum flavors, structured with supple tannins. Extensive barrel aging in new American oak barrels lends heady notes of caramel, mocha and toasty oak. Small amounts of Syrah and Petit Syrah add complexity and layers, contributing rich tannins, color, and depth of fruit. This wine is excellent to drink now but will continue to develop well in the bottle for a number of years.

Don't hold it against this particular wine because this was my first time every trying merlot and found that I hated it.

The Sterling Vintner's Collection Merlot combines the classic offerings of this varietal in a smooth, complex, fruit-intensive style. Bright aromas of black cherry and plum hold through the senses as they join ripe, chewy tannins on the palate. The fruit is complemented by ample caramel, mocha and toasty oak from extensive aging in new American oak barrels. With layered depths and silky body, this versatile wine is appropriate for many occasions.
