Mouton Rothschild Case 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

5248455

Château Mouton-rothschild:
Since 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, located at Pauillac in the Médoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the châteaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet.

This wine brought me back to reds after years of drinking vodka...1999. I still love vodka, but Very, very consistant. Opened the 02 this Saturday night with my "Friends of The Vine" group for a Merlot tasting...it was a hit. Highly recommend anything from CyT, esp Marq CC

A plush Merlot, with a nice core of plum flavors and a good herbal edge. Finishes on a slightly sweet note. Drink now through 1999.

Complex aromas of tobacco cedar berry and currants. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and ripe tannins. Wine Spectator.

The 2002 Almaviva is the finest produced to date by this joint venture between Vina Concha y Toro and the Baron Philippe de Rothschild. This Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine has a saturated, opaque, black ruby color as well as nose of sweet dark fruits,... Robert Parker. A Proprietary Blend wine from in Chile. 2002 Almaviva 750ml

...Tight nose hints at currant and smoky oak. Highly concentrated densely packed and built to age. As young as it is it also shows a lovely velvety texture rare for this vintage. Finishes with terrific breadth subtle minerality and noble tannins. I ve been a fan of this wine since the outset. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Violet red in the glass; flavors of herbs, berries and pepper are apparent in the palate. The wine is soft, medium-bodied, rounded and harmonic with a persistent finish. Very smooth, this affordable sipper provides forward fruit and easy drinkability, while a touch of Carménère offers structure and longevity.

Dense purple to the rim this wine exhibits the classic cassis aroma that is so characteristic of Mouton. Medium to full-bodied tannic powerful and cut somewhat from the 1988 mold this is a backward chewy well-endowed Mouton-Rothschild that will require considerable patience from those who purchase it...
