La Stoppa Ageno Emilia IGT 2005

Member Review by DoctorJoeE:

Ageno is absolutely unique -- Gewurztraminer on acid -- a blend of Malvasia Aromatico (60%), Ortruga, and Trebbiano from 35-year-old vines -- amber in color, the nose is peach, pear, and sweet apricot. But on the palate, not sweet at all; reminds me more of sour apple cider, or even grapefruit juice, than anything else. I know, sounds strange, but a thoroughly enjoyable wine, great with chicken, pork, and fish with cojones (i.e. swordfish, snapper, salmon). If you're bored with chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and pino grigio (and who isn't?), give this a shot. I don't know of another wine that tastes anything like it.
