La Jasse Castel la Jasse Terrasses du Larsac 2011

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought two bottles of this wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/131744 for £9. It comes from Languedoc,a large area between the Rhone delta and the Spanish border which is responsible for around one third of all French wine production and more precisely from an area within Languedoc known as Terrasses du Larsac. This got full appellation status in 2014 and refers to red wines from 32 communes in Herault in the hills north-west of Montpellier. My bottles come from the small concern of La Jasse Castel run by a lady by the name of Pascale Riviere who got the Legion d'Honneur for services to French viticulture. My bottles consists of 70% syrah,20% grenache and 10% carignan with only the syrah being oak aged.I started the first bottle last night with my supper of chicken stew.It is a very dark coloured wine. There is some blackcurrant and blackcherry style fruit with a suggestion of vanilla and of spice especially on the finish. This is a very structured wine with some soft and smooth tannins. In short, this is absolutely lovely stuff that deserves high marks and it would match many dishes including my chicken stew.
