La Clarte de Haut Brion Blanc Graves 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

*2013 Bordeaux Future due to arrive Fall 2016* Taut, with a tangy edge to the red currant, damson plum and blackberry notes, framed with plum skin and blood orange accents and backed by a solid roasted apple wood edge on the finish. This has a rather obvious tannic spine but is not woody in feel. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.*Wine Spectator 90–93ptsWe will notify you on arrival Summer 2016*

Château La Mission Haut-brion:
When the wine is young, the initial sensation is its unctuousness, the softness of a very ripe grape, the freshness of aromas and at the same time the texture of very special tanins. These meld with a trace of mineral in the wine. It is as if the land was in the glass, comprising notes of roasted coffee beans, cocoa and tobacco. This delicate bitterness is somewhat reminiscent of crystallized cherry-stones seeped in spirit. It is certainly a penchant for revealing all its qualities at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission and pleases a lot of tasters. It is also the consummate expression of the land of the Graves of Pessac. When maturing, this wine is still generous, openly proffering all its qualities. This hedonistic side is one of its most attractive particularities. Read less

This has one of the best finishes of all reds in Bordeaux in 2013. Full and balanced with medium density in the mid-palate but it lasts for minutes on the finish. Tobacco currant and spice character. Only 13.1% alcohol. James Suckling.

This white has more sauvignon blanc than normal: about two thirds instead of half. Full body with lots of fennel grapefruit apple and pineapple-skin character. Dense bright acidity. A round fruity white. James Suckling.

The Haut Brion Blanc is a blend of 66% Sauvignon Blanc and 34% Semillon was picked two days earlier than the La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc. It has a mineral-driven bouquet perhaps more terroir-driven than the La Mission at this point in time. The palate is taut and fresh with crisp acidity impressive weight in the mouth and a genuine sense of tension towards the sherbet influenced finish. This ought to be divine after bottling. Tasted April 2014. Neal Martins Wine Journal.

This unfolds on your palate with a oyster raspberry and stone character. It slowly opens and builds. Chewy yet polished. Reserved LMHB. James Suckling.

Second wine of Haut-Bailly, with 44% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 16% cabernet franc. Deep, vibrant, opaque ruby. Luscious, ripe aromas leap from the glass, with black cherry, crème de cassis, a touch of plum, and crushed rocks. Such a complex and... Cory Gowan.
