Kluge Estate New World Red 2004

Member Review by barri0s1872:

This wine reminds me of so many peculiar smells that i can only associate them with nostalgic memories of being a kid growing up around my grandmother, having kept a very good smell memory of scents i can't pin down. This wine is austere, dark, full, smokey, slightly chocolaty, worn clothing or fabric furniture with cigarette laden scents from over the years, smooth and so so good!!! i think i love Virginia now.

Established in 1999, Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard is one of the East Coast's most prestigious wineries. The winery is tucked into Carter's Mountain on the edge of the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia. Kluge Estates Winery & Vineyard's 900 acres are located on the same ridgeline of the birthplace of American viticulture, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Combining meticulous winemaking practices and world talent with a genuine love of the land and support for the Virginia wine community, Kluge Estate is capitalizing on the region’s potential to create world-class wines. We are passionate about wine, food and the enjoyment of the natural beauty that abounds us and invite you to visit our tasting room and to purchase our wines online. The origin of Virginia winemaking began with the 1607 Jamestown settlement, when the first Virginia wine was produced in 1609 from native grapes. Despite this promising start, winemaking in the New World was far more of a challenge than anticipated, evidenced by two centuries of frustration in producing wine. Virginia is developing into an influential and important U.S. winemaking region with continued dedication to quality and growth. The future of wine production in Virginia is looking brighter than as wines produced in the vineyards and wineries of the Commonwealth have gone on to win national and international acclaim with the promise of more good things to come in the future.
