Hess Chardonnay Su'Skol Vineyard 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Smoky and oaky on the nose with assertive vanilla, pineapple, candied lime zest, Clementine, and bay leaf notes. Very focused on entry with a tight core of sweet pineapple and papaya fruit that opens across the mid-palate filling the mouth. The acids keep this from feeling too big and help add definition to the tropical fruit and citrus flavors on the backend. The finish is a bit short and subtle, though the mouth is left with a nice, papaya, hazelnut and vanilla flavor. A classic rendition of California Chardonnay, in a slightly toned down style. This should work fairly well with a broad range of foods and seems well suited to accompanying grilled chicken. 88pts

The Hess Su'skol Chardonnay shows aromas of honeysuckle, and follows with apple, pear and nectarine on the palate. The wine displays nice viscosity in the mid-palate, but remains defined by the cleansing acidity on the finish.

Shows distinct cool-climate acidity framing streamlined flavors of pineapples, lemons and limes, minerals and spices. Itrsquo;s an elegantly structured, clean wine that will satisfy Chardonnay lovers.

Hard to beat at this price and score, this tightly wound, flinty young Chardonnay should only get better in the next year or two, so stock up.

Ripe, rich and layered with spicy fig, apricot, nutmeg, citrus and herbal notes. Drink now through 2004.

Offers a mix of dusty, cedary oak and ripe tropical fruit thatrsquo;s full-bodied, intense and balanced, ending with subtle nutmeg notes. Drink now through 2011.
