Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin "Les Frionnes 1996

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/131519 for £6. I think it went for so little money because of the torn label.Saint Aubin is an appellation created in 1937,although there is a record of viticulture in the area as far back as the 3rd century AD,for red and white wines [two thirds are white] from the commune of Saint Aubin on the Cotes de Beaune in Burgundy close to Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet. There are no Grand Cru vineyards in the appellation although there are 20 Premier Cru one of which is 'Les Frionnes'.I started my bottle last night with my steak supper. There is plenty of a redcurrant and cherry style fruit with some soft and smooth tannins although it is fairly well structured. In short, this is a lovely Burgundy that would pair with many foods

Henri Prudhon founded his domaine in 1945 and his son Gerard started making and bottling their own wines in the 1980's rather than sending grapes to the negociant. The domaine is now run by Henri's grandsons Philippe and Vincent. They have plots in Puligny-Montrachet.Chassagne-Montrachet as well as Saint Aubin totalling just over 14 hectares and produce a range of red and white Burgundy wines
