Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon California 2008

Member Review by jamespalmer:

Very subtle fruit blend with some cherry but the alcohol shades the aromas. The taste is equally subtle with a smooth, velvety texture and a hint of raspberry. You really need to let it breath to get a decent finish. Overall, fairly bland.

A nice affordable Cabernet that is really easy to drink. It felt a little tight as the wine went down, but a good value cab. I made a cab reduction sauce tonight with this wine and I will say it was one of the best reductions I've ever made!

This is one of hte best wines under $15-$20 out there. It's smooth, complex and incredibly easy to drink. It's a Bordeaux style wine so it's got a lot going on yet doesn't overwhelm with any one grape. Until you get afford a bottle of the Stag's Leap Fay, SLV or Cask 23, this is the next best thing.

This wine still has an alcoholic nose, but its aged a little. There's a lot of burnt earth, leather and dried lilac notes. Good fruit and the licorice on the finish has died down, although its still there.

Owned by Stags Leap Wine Cellars - same winemaker. Hot, chocolate and spice nose. Leathery and drying in the mouth, prunes and stewed fruit, but sadly its got that medicinal finish - was 2005 a hot year? Much of the fruit is overripe. The alcohol is over the top too - 13.8%. Damn, i had higher hopes...

Wine Tasting NotesBeautiful and inviting, this garnet wine beckons with rich aromas of vanilla, cedar, and plum. The palate is enveloped by the smooth and graceful structure, adorned with vanilla, Bing cherry, and black plum. The midpalate has a perfumed lift, and the finish lingers with a hint of cedar. Enjoy this wine with a wood-oven pizza topped with pancetta and black olives or a traditional beef stew with fall root vegetables.

This dark and intense wine opens with concentrated aromas of red currant fruit that mingle with cocoa powder, and an earthy chaparral character that speaks of its volcanic mountain origin. Flavors of red currant, dark chocolate, and walnuts are entwined with restrained tannins that give way to a long vanilla oak finish.

Intense and rich, this wine announces its arrival with a perfume of summer berries and black licorice. The palate is full and lushly fruited with red cherries and blackberries alongside notes of white
