Château Haut Batailley:
The name of this estate refers to one of the battles of the Hundred Years War that was fought here in 1452. The first vines were planted in the 16th century and in the 1855 classification it became a fifth growth. In 1932 it was bought by brothers Marcel and Francois Borie who split it in 1942. The first vines were planted in the 16th century and in the 1855 classification it became a fifth growth. In 1932 it was bought by brothers Marcel and Francois Borie who split it in 1942. Marcel got the larger share plus the chateau while Francois share became known as Chateau Haut-Batailley although there was no actual chateau. An elegant well-crafted 89. Bubbling over with blackberry cherry and bark. Full-bodied very velvety well-integrated tannins and a ripe berry aftertaste -- 1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2001. Wine Spectator.
