Francis Ford Coppola Syrah Dry Creek Valley Reserve 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Click here to see a video clip of winemaker Corey Beck discuss the Reserve wines.Francis Coppola Reserve 2006 Dry Creek Valley Syrah is single vineyard designate from Mounts Vineyard. It is co-fermented with a small percentage of Viognier to lift the aromatics and help set this varietals bright-magentacolor. Enjoy an enticing perfume of cherries, currants, leather and allspice. Generousflavors of raspberries and black plums finish with a hint of clove, plus smooth, ripe tanninssupport a long seductive finish.Australians have made the varietal incredibly popular (under the name "Shiraz"), but here in California, we do the grape justice too! Dry Creek Valley experiences temperature differentials, with the valley actingas a funnel to capture marine breezes, which cool the vineyards every evening. Becausethere is a substantial difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, the growingseason lasts longer, so the grapes mature more slowly. This accentuates the jammy, darkfruit flavors of Syrah.
