Fixin Jean-Baptiste Bejot 1996

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/127118.Fixin is a Burgundy appellation created in 1936 [although there has been viticulture here since at least the Romans] for red and white wines [although 96% are red] from the two communes of Fixin and Brochon. These are located on the Cotes de Nuits just south of Marsannay and north of Gevrey-Chambertin.There are no Grand Cru vineyards but 5 Premier Cru.My bottle comes from a negociant house and is 100% pinot noir.I started it last night with my steak supper. There is some black cherry and bramble style fruit but the tannins are quite noticable in spite of over 20 years of bottle age. There is little in the way of delicacy or subtlety as it is more rough and rustic. In short,I was not that impressed as I have had far better Burgundy wines, but it went with the steak.

Béjot Jean-Baptiste:
The business was founded in 1891 as a wine merchant in Beaune but bought in 1987 by Vincent Sauvestre who made it more of a negociant house. It now controls 260 hectares in Burgundy plus another 270 hectares in the Rhone valley and Languedoc and has a turnover of 50 million Euros a year.It is the third biggest operator in Burgundy producing red, rose, white and sparkling wines across many of the appellations
