David Bruce Appellation Series Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Fruit comes from five vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Alexander Valley regions. Barrel aging limited to 12 months (French, American and Hungarian oak) in order to accentuate ripe cherry aromas and flavors with toasted oak and spice beneath. In the mouth the wine is firm yet velvety, with lingering flavors. While drinking nicely now, it should evolve gracefully for up to five years. Alcohol 14.1%.

Light to medium bodied, but a surprising and pleasant cherry and stone fruit tartness.

This vintage is a selection of superb Pinot Noir grapes from the Sonoma Coast. The region combines cool ocean climate and sufficient rainfall to promote natural sugar development and flavorful grape acidity. This wine has an expression of red cherry, cranberry and plum coupled with lingering notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and a subtle hint of clove. On the palate, red cherry and plum dominate, with hints of vanilla, citrus, toasted pine nuts. Fine tannin structure and a long finish.
