Cote Mas Rouge Intense Sud de France 2017

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from the website www.vinatis.co.uk.Languedoc is a large area in the south of France stretching from the Rhone delta to the Spanish border which got appellation status in the 1980's.The area is responsible for around a third of all French wine production although most of it like my bottle comes under a Vin de Pays [Pays d'Oc] or IGP designation My bottle comes from the large Paul Mas concern and consists of 45% grenache,25% carignan,15% cinsault,10% merlot and 5% syrah.I started it last night with my pasta supper. This is a full bodied wine with plenty of plum, raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant style fruit and more than a hint of savoury spice especially on the finish with soft, smooth but structured tannins. I thought this a lovely wine and I am not the only one to think so because it got a gold medal at the 2018 Concours General Agricole in Paris
