Ceretto Bricco Rocche Barolo Bricco Rocche 2008

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Reticent on the nose with slow to emerge notes of earth, sweet anise, sweet pharmaceutical notes and some burnt orange peel. In the mouth this is round with soft tannins well buffered by a nice core of ripe fruit. There is nice weight here and good balance but it's not revealing much detail and finishes fairly quickly. 90pts

Very evolved on the nose with a big porcini note and notes of bullion and burnt orange peel that float above the apricot and strawberry fruit. An unusual juxtaposition of fresh and aged. Bright and rigid in the mouth with great ripe tannins that support a big core of decidedly earthy and savory fruits. The tannins really come to dominate the finish. 88pts

Rich with oak spice and chocolate accents shading the cherry plum and tobacco flavors. Tightly wound displaying full tannins on the finish. Well-balanced this needs time to absorb the tannins. Best from 2016 through 2030.- B.S. Wine Spectator.

Wine & Spirits ReviewRated 92From the prime spot on Ceretto's Bricco Rocche hill, this intense young Barolo balances classical elegance with generous weight. Tannins blanket the dark fruit, holding the middle of it in an iron porcini-scented grip. Then there's a moment when the structure seems softer, as if expanding after an initial contraction. The wine itself seems to breathe in and out, on one taste accessible, impenetrable the next. The Ceretto brothers first bottled this cru in 1982; their 2001 should thrive in the cellar for two decades or more.

The ostentatious staggering 1997 Barolo Bricco Rocche possesses a dark garnet color with amber at the edge. The explosive bouquet of coffee liqueur licorice spice box black cherries kirsch raspberries and cedar is to die for. The wine reveals numerous dimensions and nuances as well as a boatload of glycerin. Full-bodied massively concentrated and exceptionally thick and juicy with a sweetness due to the high glycerin and ripeness this is Barolo on steroids. Anticipated maturity: now-2018.
