Buehler Zinfandel Napa Valley 2013

Member Review by rckr1951:

Fairly light for a Buehler but then the '12 wasn't the best for several Zin producers. Some dark and red berry fruits, spice, plum and herbal notes. Better than before - 88 pts - drink now - Paul

Buehler Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery located in the mountains east of St. Helena in Napa Valley. Situated north of Pritchard Hill and Conn Valley, near the base of Howell Mountain, our hillside vineyards are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller blocks of old-vine Zinfandel. Our family has been farming this beautiful estate for thirty-six years. We combine that experience and the unique terroir of our hillside vineyards with low yields, meticulous vineyard management, and minimalist winemaking techniques to create wines of uncommon complexity and depth, and to present these wines to wine lovers at reasonable prices. Beautiful wine - a little harsh on the nose (pepper/spice a bit over done)so a bit too peppery and spicy for my Zinfandel taste - a little more fruit on the nose for me is better - excellent finish and good drinking wine - 90 pts....not exactly but a great Zin with lots of potential - tried it twice over 7 months and it did get better - a little more age and maybe 90 pts it will earn. Good price point though!

A rewarding Zin and a great value. Just the right spice and a good balance. Big fruit, but not jammy or overly sweet. http://rampantoenophile.bridgevine.com/2009/10/buehler-buehler-buehler.html

This Buehler Zinfandel was aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, 20% of which were new. At this level of "new wood," the up-front endearing quality of Zinfandel can assert itself. Aromas of a briar patch on a hot summer day carry over to the palate and are carried in a mouth-filling, flavorful, juicy package. The wine was crafted for immediate enjoyment but for those who enjoy a more complex wine displaying some bottle aged character, aging for another two to three years is a good option. The Wine Spectator called it "Sleek and focused, with cherry, mineral and fresh herb aromas and flavors. The finish is firm but promises to improve with short-term aging."

Rhône-like undertones. Dry, with tar, tea, earth and raspberry flavors, ti picks up a touch of roasted coffee and game flavors that add a nice twist. Well-made, if limited-quality, Zinfandel. Drink now through 2005.

Supple and balanced, with pretty raspberry and cherry fruit and lively notes of spicy red pepper and candied apple that persist toward the long finish, which keeps the focus on the fruit. Drink now through 2011.
