Bodegas Pinord Priorat Balcons 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

It is a wine with a great robe, violet tones streaked with deep red. Its robust and potent bouquet denotes, first and foremost, its tme in the barrel, with toasted and vanilla aromas, followed by pleasant mature fruit aromas. As it is oxygenated, spicy nuances are discovered, such as pepper and clove, with singular mineral aromas from the licorella soils of the Priorat. It is full and vigorous, with mature tannins and wild fruit touches, with a long and persistent aftertaste. A wine with potential which augurs a long life.

In 1942, José María Tetas set up the current winery in Vilafranca del Penedès, just four kilometres from the original estate. Having inherited the family methods and traditions, it has gradually grown until it has now become one of the most highly reputed wineries in the region and the whole country. At the present time, PINORD’s production facilities have an output capacity of over five million bottles per year. Nevertheless, traditional family standards are maintained and care is taken to avoid over production, something that generally results in a loss of quality. Two enologists and a laboratory with the most up-to-date analytical and quality control equipment ensure that the long-standing family tradition continues to be compatible with today’s most demanding quality, production and health controls demonstrating that traditional methods are not necessarily at variance with the implementation of the most rigorous standards. The early wines soon began to win a name and prestige for themselves as a result of their high quality. Since then, generation after generation, year after year, the family’s vineyards have continued to expand, the local varieties have considerably improved and the family name has become inseparably linked to the wine of El Penedès. The Bodegas Pinord vineyards are situated just a few miles from Vilafranca. We are proud to be able to say that they are grouped round the Muntanyans Hermitage standing on a hill from which you can see a large part of El Penedès. Read less
