External Review:

Tiny yields of 29 hectoliters per hectare from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc have resulted in a terrific, dense inky/blue/purple-colored 2003 offering sumptuous aromas of creme de cassis, crushed rocks, flowers, and black raspberries, ... Acquired by Vincent Mulliez in 2004, Château BELLE-VUE results from a terroir whose history merges with that of the wine of Bordeaux. Located on the commune typically “médocaine” of Macau, yesterday seat of an active shipping industry, now famous for its vineyards, this vineyard knows a true rebirth. Château BELLE-VUE enjoyed a very good reputation from the 19th century and won many awards: Gold medal in Amsterdam in 1895, as well as silver medals in Brussels (1897), Paris (1900) and Bordeaux (1907). Over the last vintages, notably since 1999, the wines of Château BELLE-VUE have been regularly distinguished with honours and medals in wine competitions and in the international press. The 10 hectare vineyard is located on a plateau with deep gravely soil (7-10 metres) adjacent to Château Giscours (Margaux AOC). The soil is naturally well drained, enabling the grapes to ripe early. Good fresh dark red. Smoky dark berries, cherry and menthol on the aromatic nose. Supple, sweet and juicy, with aromatic, nicely delineated red berry and cherry flavors enlivened by harmonious balancing acidity. Finishes with dusty, slightly dry-edge... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A rich Bordeaux with hints of pepper, oak, and spice. This wine is ready to drink but we do suggest decanting.

This is very fruity, with beautiful underlying character of spices. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a silky, caressing texture. Long finish. Racy and refined. This is a hot new wine... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2001 Bellevue 750ml

Bellevue's debut vintage...is a whopper...a glorious perfume of blackberries and blueberries underlaid with a striking minerality, full body, high tannin, abundant glycerin, concentration, and muscle, and a 40-second finish...A tour de force!... Bright ruby. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, cassis, violet, espresso and licorice, along with spice, mint and mineral nuances. Spicy, bright and already expressive in the mouth, with lush dark berry and floral flavors complicated by a truffley note. T... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. This is a classic right bank Bordeaux with a high proportion of Merlot (60-70%) grown on clay and limestone soil. The Lacaz family have been making wine on their six-hectare estate for three generations. The wine ages for two years in cask before release to give it superior age-ability though, with its preponderance of Merlot, it is approachable in its youth.
