Azienda Bricco Rocche Ceretto Barolo Bricco Rocche 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine & Spirits Review Rated 92 From the prime spot on Ceretto's Bricco Rocche hill, this intense young Barolo balances classical elegance with generous weight. Tannins blanket the dark fruit, holding the middle of it in an iron porcini-scented grip. Then there's a moment when the structure seems softer, as if expanding after an initial contraction. The wine itself seems to breathe in and out, on one taste accessible, impenetrable the next. The Ceretto brothers first bottled this cru in 1982; their 2001 should thrive in the cellar for two decades or more.

Very evolved on the nose with a big porcini note and notes of bullion and burnt orange peel that float above the apricot and strawberry fruit. An unusual juxtaposition of fresh and aged. Bright and rigid in the mouth with great ripe tannins that support a big core of decidedly earthy and savory fruits. The tannins really come to dominate the finish. 88pts
