  • Tralcio Antico Morellino di Scansano 2017

I bought this bottle of wine from a little shop near the hotel I stayed in when ... wines made of at least 85% sangiovese [a grape called morellino in this area] from around the village of Scansano in the coastal part of Tuscany. I started my bottle last night with my pizza supper. There is plenty of a cherry and redcurrant style fruit with a hi... Read More

  • Altesino Brunello di Montalcino 2013

Lightest cherry colour. Slight bricking. Scent is very Brunello-Sangiovese, with dried Maraschino cherry and cedar bark prominent. Entry is velvet smooth - with a hint of vanilla (oak) but only a hint of tannin on the finish. Surprisingly mature. Less powerful than anticipated, but it has been a while between bottles. Excellent value, though, wi... Read More

  • So on a whim we decided to visit British Columbia. But we flew up to ... in ... in Tempranillo, Aglianico, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Gamay, Cab Franc, and others. It's still a learning curve for many of those and maybe some will never be anything to write home about but you don't know until you try. There's also plenty of Pinot Noir, but I didn't... Read More

  • I am partial to Italian wines. It must be a cultural thing, as my parents were immigrants. Last week, I was introduced to Il Poggio Sangiovese Rubicone 2008 at my Italian conversation group. It was love at first sip ... I bought a case. Life is too short ... drink fine wines which can be bought a good price. There are many treaures out there wa...

  • The fact that there is nary a bottle of Canaletto, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo to be bought anywhere, says it all. At around $10 a bottle, it probably deserves more than a 3 out of 5 rating but what do I know? I just like drinking it when I can get it.
