The Face to Face Club - a Proposal

Original post by zufrieden, Mar 24, 2019.

I have been thinking for a while on the idea of facilitating the meeting up in person of those loyally frequenting this site.

My preference is to make these meetings open to all members, and even varying the location of any meeting according to convenience since we live all over the world (though mostly in North America).

In any case, this new thread is here for anyone to discuss the idea of meeting up - including dates, locations and activities.  The idea is that wine is the focus but - being human beings - we drink wine in order to enjoy each other's company and conversation.

Hopefully there is interest out there.

Haha.  MY wife is the one that's hard to please.  She would protest, but I'm referring to her need of order and fastidious tidiness.  Zuf can attest.

I wasn't being a dink at the wineries, I just didn't have time to mess around with, "but we have this really good Pinot Noir".  ;)  (that's for Greg!).

Ah, but your wife (DV) has performed admirable custodial duties on the house and the back yard I can say from recent experience sitting for a spell while she worked and we sat!  I am not entirely sure if Greg can get to the Blue Mountain winery - which is, though changed somewhat with the generational "throwing of the torch" for the owners (a family enterprise), a rock of quality - especially Quality to Price ratio.

Osoyoos Larose might also be worth a visit, along with Note Bene.  But I suspect (without reading through everything at this point) that you've given a heads up on this.

So, although I can't get out to the Okanagan Valley this weekend, we should concentrate on getting some of the dedicated few together.  I have a good feeling it would be, as some might say, "a gas"...

O-L doesn't do visitors I guess. But I got here this afternoon and I'm already impressed. Not w the BBQ pork noodle soup but w the wines. We only had just over an hour and a half so only got to three wineries but all were good.

Looks like crappy weather today Greg, but supposed to be sunny and mid to high 80's from tomorrow on.

I'd only do Asian food in Vancouver ;)  It'd be great if you could get photos of the places you visit, but since you're trying to relax, maybe just take some concise notes!

'BBQ pork noodle soup' in the Okanagan? Hmmm....

Looks like you've got a homework assignment, Greg! Would love to be there, would even be happy to take notes for you, especially since Tokyo's turned into an armed camp with Trump in town. Of course he thinks everything's about him, and not the millions who died in WWII, and all the smart (!) people who've worked on the relationship since then. “With all the countries of the world, I’m the guest of honor at the biggest event that they’ve had in over 200 years,” The 200 years, btw, is just the time since an emperor last abdicated instead of dying in the job... Why is it I feel he's not the best person to be trying to build on everyone else's efforts? Especially at this critical time when more people are realizing China's actually been a wolf in sheep's clothing?

DM,

Just when I think it can't get any worse......it always does.  I really hope the US can get through it and get back to normal one day.

"Rainy and cold again today!"

Hey, you're in the deep north, the part of the continent even the Dakotans didn't want! Land of Canucks, French trappers, Inuits, polar bears, many moose, more grizzlies, Mounties with grit, and that nasty concoction poutine they all chowdown with their Molson's, that Coors has also managed to make worse! The place where Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse and Vietnam draft dodgers went for refuge. Where the half of Hollywood that isn't from Oz and Kiwiland is from. Where the politicians are polite and good looking (and don't seem to like Orange Brain)! Be sure to avoid Alberta with all its drunk oil workers, many of them currently out of work....

Can think of a lot worse than that haiku...

5-7-5 as always.  I'll try to concoct a faux haiku in honour of our efforts to get together... or Sitting Bull, and draft dodgers et al.

Weather was marvelous all week here.

Was hoping no-one would call me on the syllable count (which is more key in Japanese than English, anyway, because their alphabet is a syllabary).

But thought Greg's impromptu reaction to the 'natural' world around him at the time, and how he broke it up, deserved honorable inclusion in the category...

Why thank you. So here's a haiku:

Cold water is gone.

Plumbers working all day long.

Hot water is gone.

And are you on the hillside in a tent, swimming in the lake for your baths, or actually in some accommodations?  ;-)

So Greg, how was your first visit to the Okanagan? And will it be the last?

And remember, God is in the details...  ;-)

He told me he'd be putting up a report sometime soon, but confirmed they had plans to return.

Ah, report of a GregT sighting!

Will be interesting to hear details on what was good where, especially in the context of QPR. And what was found other than cab and merlot....

I'm sure he went to Moon Curser where they do a Tempranillo, Carmenere and Touriga Nacional.....how's that for weird and "Canadian"?
