The Dog Bite

Posted by Daniel Petroski, Nov 13, 2009.

gr, our resident mixologist, long story short.... a dog, who I am dog sitting, within the last 24 hours bit my girlfriend and the owner of the winery I work, I need a drink. Is there a Dog Bite cocktail ? Or such a thing similar ? Or better yet, can you come up with some ideas for a Dog Bite ?

Dan ... you mean your sweet dog actually bit someone? I can't believe that ... was she teasing her?

I thought he meant another dog...

Anyway, best I can come up with is the Salty Dog:

- 2 oz vodka
- 5 oz grapefruit juice
- salt rimming
Garnish: lime wedge

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a salt rimmed martini glass and garnish with lime wedge.

Gentlemen, thank you. (Correct, Philip, it was another dog.) (John, thank god it was.) (E Gregory, grazie mille. Ho capito.) But long story short, it is 7:53 a.m. on Saturday morning and I was too mentally and physically drained from these experiences (and harvest) that I didn't drink anything last night but a glass of Basil Hayden, neat. And passed out. Unfortunately, there is a bad things that are going to happen to this dog this weekend and those drinks, all of them above will be consumed in the faithful memory, sadly. Once I get through that, I owe you guys a couple of updates, a harvest recap and an update on my white wine project. Until then. (And Greg, where are you in Italy ? Anywhere near Montalcino ? Want you to meet a dear friend at Il Pallazzone.)

I drove through Montalcino today and stopped for Lunch.

Sadly I will be limiting myself to Chianti today and tomorrow then off to Montepulciano for Monday and Tuesday before heading to Umbria.

Montalcino will have to waqit for my next visit but thanks very much for the offer!

i'm sorry to hear about the dog. i understand why serious action needs to be taken when a dog bites, but i am of the opinion it normaly happens due to some sort of human error as dog behavior is just a result of instinct and training. but that is neither here nor there, i guess. so here is a drink to honor the memory

mad dog
1 oz vodka
1 oz cherry juice
1 drop tabasco sauce

Here in Ireland a. Dog bite is equal parts sea dog rum ( or any navy rum), Benedictine and fresh lime juice.
