Favola Pinot Grigio 2005

Posted by Terese Zuiderveen Deneweth, Jul 16, 2015.

I have received a beautiful bottle of Favola Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie IGT vintage 2005. Does anyone have information on this wine that they would be willing to share?? Taste profile, aging process, the vineyard in Italy??

Welcome to the Snooth Forum, Terese.  We're very pleased to meet you.

It appears that user reviews for this wine are all over the place.

Here on the Snooth site, there are some positive reports on this wine from 2011.  In all honesty I think these reviews might be way over the top.  Somebody taking the hande Wine Pro NYC says that he would pay $2000 for a bottle of it.  I cannot imagine what kind of mind altering chemicals he was taking to make that statement.  It was definitely something more potent than alcohol.  Also, it is significant that neither of the two reviewers of this wine ever posted another review here on Snooth.

Over on CellarTracker there are two reviews by the same person in 2008.  Sadly, this person was not positive at all about it at all.

Pinot Grigios from Northern Italy are usually very light, crisp wines with fruit flavors of green apple, lemon or, maybe tropical.  They are not particularly complex wines, and, generally, are more candidates for drinking on release rather than aging.  My suggestion is to give a chill for a few hours in your refrigerator, open it up, try it, and come back to report your findings.  I am curious, but not terribly optimistic.
