for this region?

San Luis Obispo is part of the larger wine Central Coast region of California, located at the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Spanish missionaries began wine-making here over two centuries ago for ceremonial wines made from the Mission (a.k.a. Pais) grape.

The area has two microclimates. Cooler conditions in the north are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, while the warmer south cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
There are four subregions within San Luis Obispo:
Arroyo Grande Valley
Edna Valley
Paso Robles
York Mountain

  • Field Recordings Creston Ridge Vineyard Sangiovese Rose Paso Robles 2017

    Snoothrank:

Fresh peach and dried persimmon notes with a hint of something herbal and a bit of fresh melon. Zesty and bright on the palate with orange leaf, creamsicle and strawberry notes with a really pleasant fresh pumpkin note and a floral finish. Truly intriguing and a nice departure from the norm. 91 pts Read More

  • Field Recordings French Camp Vineyards Valdiguie Rose Paso Robles 2017

    Snoothrank:

Strawberry with hay and barley aromas, a touch of cherry and some citrus notes on the nose. This is a bit biscuity on the palate with loads of citrus zest and sparkly acidity, cherry, grapefruit and tangerine fruit, some melon rind and a finish of warm spice and a creamy texture. Read More

  • Elevation 1250' 2013

    Snoothrank:

Surprisingly not hot with a 14.5% alcohol by volume. Nothing too special. It was a little disjointed. Nothing offensive. I would expect more staying power and this had medium weight. Read More

  • Trader Joe's Petit Reserve Zinfandel Paso Robles 2013

    Snoothrank:

Gift from the Bassett's 2/21/2018. It has been a while since I last tasted a zinfandel. This one was not as spicy (not a fav of mine) as I remember the last one I tasted being. Therefore, it was right in my wheelhouse and I drank more of the bottle than I should have. Read More

  • Lone Madrone Oveja 2015

    Snoothrank:

Tons of fruit on entrytable grapes, stone fruit such as peach or, better, nectarine, tropical fruit such as kiwi, banana. Some stoniness or minerality. Noticeable spritziness almost suggesting secondary fermentation. Great acid tartness provides refreshment. Read More
