Edna Valley Wine

The Edna Valley AVA is located within San Luis Obispo County in California’s Central Coast. Its proximity to the Pacific Coast, with cool, foggy mornings and sunny days ensures a moderate climate conducive to a long growing season and balanced grapes. The valley was once part of the ocean floor, so much of the chalk, loam and clay soils have a fertile subsoil composed of ancient marine sediment.

Missionaries and settlers planted grapes in the region starting in the 1800s, but it wasn’t until the 1960s (well after Phylloxera, the Prohibition and Depression) that the region began to take shape. Burgundian grapes such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay do well in this cool-climate region, while Rhone varietals such as Syrah, Viognier and Rousanne also produce excellent wines. ~Amanda Schuster

  • Mark West Pinot Noir California 2012

    Snoothrank:

2017 was a great Super Bowl game. This wine debuted at the pre-party, and I got zero complaints from those who tried it. I got one sniff and a taste, it was just fine, no other accolades. For me the Super Bowl watching requires beer, lots and lots of beer. It is usually a 3/4 to 10/11 event. Read More
