Côtes-du-rhône Wine

ABOUT COTES DU RHONE WINES. LOCATION: The Côtes du Rhône vineyards run along the banks of the Rhône River between Lyon and Avignon in South East France. The region is divided in two distinct parts, North and South. Both areas are primarily known for red wines. The area covers about 100 000 acres of vines (half of the Rhône Valley total acreage) over 171 villages. Grapes can be sourced from one single vineyard or from as many villages as 171. NORTHERN RHONE: The vines benefit from a semi-continental climate between Vienne and Valence, where the Syrah grape variety is at its best. These wines are superb with elegance and subtleness that pair nicely with stews which have simmered for hours, sausages, steaks, creamy cheeses, etc. SOUTHERN RHONE: Between Montélimar and Avignon, the climate is fully Mediterranean with the Grenache grape variety far in the lead. Associated with the Syrah and Mourvèdre grape varieties, it brings spicy notes which enhance southern cooking such as different vegetable Read more »

  • Gabriel Meffre Cotes du Rhone "Saint-vincent" 2018

The 2018 Saint-Vincent blend CdR from Gabriel Meffre is on target once more: The backbone of Grenache Blanc is bolstered by some ginger snap of Viognier and soft herbal tea flavours and scent of Roussanne. Bouquet is very inviting at this price point: kiwi fruit, wet iron minerality, and viognier ginger and cake spice. Quite inviting, and ent... Read More

  • Cotes du Rhone Villages les Garrigues Janasse 91 2012

Purchased this '12 while we were in Provence in 2014 so it's been stored properly. Just the slightest of bricking on the edges. The nose gives plenty of ripe black cherry and just the slightest hint of menthol. More black cherry on the palate layered with cigar box, bitter chocolate all wrapped up with a good bit of acid and fine grained tannin... Read More

  • La Vieille Ferme Blanc Luberon 2017

This wine is simply astounding value at about nine dollars US (12 $C in Canada). the nose is quite pungent... with crushed nettle, black pepper and a hint of peach. The entry is smooth, with a hint of used cinnamon bark and lots of good white fruit. Vermentino and Grenache Blanc seem to dominate. For parties at Yuletide, this cannot be beat. ... Read More
