Where are wine corks made?

Whether it's real cork, synthetic cork, stelvin, composite cork, I'm sure they're all made in different places. Are we talking in a factory or do some wineries actually have cork making facilities on-site? Anyone know the answer?

Found this really awesome step-by-step picture guide of how corks are made. Seems that these corks were produced in Portugal.

Oh, and I should add that judging by the pictures, the winery isn't making the cork themselves.

I have no clue where they are made. I don't think I have ever thought of it. I wonder what kind of other products does a cork producing factory also makes... would love to see some answers.

hmmm, this would require some research for me. I have never visited a winery that produces is own corks. I have been more interested on what people do with the corks afterwards. One of my friends keeps them and inscribe in them a score she gives the wine- to remind her how much she liked or dislked them.

I have seen Cork-Boards made out of actual wine corks, they look so cool.
