Fave Chardonnays from the Côte Chalonnaise & Mâconnais from Spring 2014

I spent three beautiful spring days in May in the cellars of the Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais rather than in the sunshine. So it was the Chardonnays (and Pinot Noirs, of course) that brightened my days.

7. Château de Fuissé Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes (2012)

Planted in 1929, the current vintage of this wine was aged entirely in new oak and the wine can certainly handle it. Its generosity on the palate is reined in by a bit of nut pith tannins. It shows all the vibrant acidic restraint of 2012 without any requirement of caveats. 92 pts
