Special Occasion Wines Worth The Price

Raptor Ridge Chehalem Mountains Harbinger Vineyard Brut Rosé ($63)- Scott and Annie Shull of Raptor Ridge Winery have long dreamed of starting their own little "grower champagne" label, simply waiting for the perfect time to launch their Method Champenois program. "In late October of 2011 with November rains facing us, the grapes were still lean and mean. We looked at the numbers, tasted the grapes, and determined that it was time - Mother Nature just backed us right into that bubbly little corner!" For so many reasons, 2011 is one of my favorite vintages in Oregon. Acidity is bright and vivacious, aromatics are rich and full of life, and flavors pop mid-palate while elegance lingers through to the finish. Orange zest, fresh cherries and a hint of nuttiness sings in harmony with the beautiful acidity and zingy bubbles. I absolutely love this Brut Rosé and although it is a special occasion wine, it's one I'd enjoy for no special reason at all - just sip, savor, repeat.
